Full out fabulous or streamlined sophistication: what should you do for your second wedding?
I’m so excited to share this post on ways to upcycle on your wedding day in collaboration with Liza Ellis.
What should you do for your second wedding?
You may have done it once before, but your second wedding is no less worth celebrating. In fact, it could be considered twice as special, and worth doubling up on the extravagant celebrations.
However, having already planned one wedding, the thought of going full-out fabulous for this one might feel daunting. But, is it really better to opt for streamlined sophistication instead? Let’s take a look at some of the elements you’ll want to consider when planning your big day.
Macro vs. micro venues
Your guestlist and venue are a great place to start. Begin by thinking about who you want to invite – will you be extending invitations to friends and acquaintances, or sticking to a family-only ceremony? The number of people you invite will correspond to the size of the venue you book.
For a subtle but sophisticated celebration, consider a micro wedding – these have become popular in recent years, and serve as a nice middle ground between a grand, extravagant celebration and an intimate elopement. Of course, if you can’t imagine tying the knot without all of your loved ones in attendance, a macro wedding might be for you. Unlike a micro wedding that might take place in a small chapel, garden, or barn, a macro wedding will require a bigger space to accommodate a larger guestlist, like a grand hall, stately home, or an impressive hotel ballroom.
A live band vs. a subtle soundtrack
When it comes to entertainment for your big day, there really are no rules. But generally, a live band will scream full-out fabulous, while a DJ set will keep your celebration feeling more streamlined and low-key.
There are exceptions, of course. While an upbeat party band playing the biggest hits will create a lavish, fun-filled atmosphere, a sophisticated, slightly more subtle jazz, blues, or acoustic folk performance will encourage a more relaxed ambiance. Consider the mood you want to encourage and the number of guests you’ll need to entertain to help you choose your musical entertainment.
Plated sit-down dinner vs. cocktail-style snacks
Your guests will be looking forward to experiencing a wonderful meal at your wedding. While there are endless options for your dining experience, choosing a traditional sit-down dinner will add a touch of elegance and luxury to your special day. To elevate the experience even further consider hiring professional waitstaff to serve each course, and don't forget the small details that make all the difference - think intricately designed tablescapes and beautifully calligraphed place cards for each guest.
A cocktail-style dinner might feel more relaxed and rustic, but with the right dishes, decor and dress code, it’ll ooze elegance and refinement too. Consider a variety of hors d’oeuvres, and encourage your guests to wear cocktail attire for your sophisticated wedding reception.
Special moments
No matter whether you choose full-out fabulous or streamlined sophistication, some details will remain the same, like the ways you choose to share special moments with your new spouse and loved ones. Handwritten love letters, family photos, and cultural traditions incorporated into your big day will make it a celebration to cherish.
